“When a nail infection develops, the most common cause is a fungus. More frequent on the toenails than on the fingernails, fungal nail infections affect about 12% of all Americans.” AAD

There are millions of people affected by nail fungus. However, not everyone really understands the exact nature of this infection. If you have been contaminated by this organism and you don’t have complete knowledge about it, you will only be led to misconceptions and false beliefs. So make it a point to ask the necessary questions and know more.
The nail fungus that caused your infection is known as “dermaphyte.” These are not really considered as bacteria, they are actually plants. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot is considered as a “dermaphyte” too, but a different kind. The fungus causing athlete’s foot affects the skin of your feet, while this one affects your nails. When your nails are infected, they will become yellowish or brownish, and brittle as well.
It would seem like nail fungi are thriving on your nail beds. This is normal because your nail beds provide the warmth and moisture that they need. They love to breed and grow there because your nail also serves as their protection from treatments that you might apply.
Yes, everyone can get nail fungi, especially during moist and warm months. In fact, statistics say that older people have a much bigger risk in getting it. This is partly because the elderly have a lower immune system which makes them vulnerable to infections.
Yes, it’s possible to acquire it from another person under certain conditions. For example, if you have little cuts that are located near your nails, and you had contact with somebody who has nail fungus, you will most likely get it. Another example could be moist and warm public places such as salons and pools. It can also spread in areas like public shower cubicles.
Getting nail fungus on your toenails would be more likely than getting it on your fingernails. This is because toe nails are more exposed to conditions that promote the growth of these fungi. Conditions such as walking barefoot in wet and warm shower rooms or wearing shoes with socks frequently increase the chances of fungus growth.
You can treat and eliminate your nail fungus – it cannot really kill you. However, simple fungal infections such as these can easily progress into something that is more alarming if you have diabetes (or other severe sickness).
Since it will take a long time to treat nail fungus, many people are tempted to cover their nails with polish or fake nails. If you do this however, the ability of your nails to take air inside will be lessened. Therefore, moisture will be trapped more and the fungi in your nails will grow further.
You should not assume that the nail fungus will disappear by itself. As early as
possible, treat it with topical creams, oral medications, or natural ointments found
in drugstores or internet shops. It will always be wonderful to have healthy and
